Week 2 of the Crossfit Open came and went with a blink of an eye. Those of you who follow me on instagram (@maggieszczepanczyk) probably already know that I was stuck back in Birmingham for almost 2 weeks because of heavy snow and therefore my train back to Scotland was cancelled. This little weather problem prevented me from doing the Open workout the way I had set it out for myself, but either way I did manage to do it. Thankfully, my old affiliate (Crossfit Wolverhampton) allowed me to get the workout done over at their gym so I didn’t miss out on anything.
Normally I would have my first attempt at an Open workout on Friday and later redo it on Monday, but this time I had my first attempt on Sunday morning and redone it on Monday evening. And yes, my legs were in agony on Monday morning. Up until the point when I got to the gym the second time, I didn’t know whether my body can take doing the workout again but eventually I made up my mind and went for it.
My first attempt was pretty bad with a time of 9:48 (not proud of it) and my weight was 65kg (143lbs) for 18.2a. I knew that if I tried really hard, I could get a much better time and weight on the two workouts, and this self belief actually lead me to beating my time by over a minute and lifting 5kg more. The second attempt gave me a score of 8:45 and 70kg (154lbs), which still are not the best scores and scores that I wish weren’t mine but nonetheless I’m super proud of giving this workout a second go and improving.
Like you all probably know from my previous posts, I’m still not a super athlete and I have a lot of weaknesses that I work on everyday. My conditioning isn’t good as you can tell from my 18.2 score or even from my 18.1 score and my strength isn’t exactly where I would want it to be but I will improve in all areas by next year and I’m already looking forward to the journey.
Anyway, bring on 18.3, hopefully we get to see some handstand push ups and muscle ups, good luck everyone!
And like with the 2 previous Open posts, I will be doing an 18.3 update on Tuesday so keep an eye out for it.
